The
Skyline Drive runs
along the
Shenandoah Mountains. On June 12, we entered at the
Northern
point
at Front Royal, and drove down to the South, exiting at Rte 33.
Our first stop was beautiful
Luray
Caverns. A small flash such as I have does not do
the
place justice.
One of the famous rock formations "fried eggs". This one was
caused by
a construction accident during an expansion.
View from the outlook at Mary's Rock Tunnel. The only tunnel
along the drive. It can be seen at the end of the roadway.
We saw many deer along the drive that allowed us to come very close
like this one.
We hiked a short part of this famous trail that runs from Maine to
Georgia.
At one of our lunch stops, Stephanie decided to sketch a Columbine
flower into her diary.
We hiked 1.5 miles from the Skyline Drive to the South River Falls. As
you can see, it is a long
drop into a small pool, where it splits into two side falls.
Our last stop was one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the
Natural Bridge
in
Virginia.
